Removing Artex is one of the most popular jobs I undertake.
Artex removal rids you of old, tired and dated-looking ceilings – leaving a surface that’s much easier to paint and maintain. A new plaster ceiling won’t gather the dust and cobwebs that Artex ceilings seem to attract.
Rather than actually removing Artex, my regular method is to PVA and plaster directly over that. Another method I use is fixing plasterboard over the Artex and finishing off with a layer of plaster. This is a skilled and hefty job! Provided the Artex is in fairly good condition, I apply a sealant, covering it with new plasterboard and skim over that with a new plaster layer.
